Abstract

India is a land of villages. Soon after Independence, it took years for India to reach out to the villages with basic facilities. As technology improved, further impetus was given to the rural development. Every successive five year plans had something or the other for the growth and sustenance of rural economy. The internal migration, people flocking from rural areas to urban areas put pressure on the cities, especially state capital cities. Having realized the problems faced by the urban dwellers, the policy makers advised the governments to initiative rapid programmes to contain the internal migration by announcing various schemes of rural development.
