Abstract

Dr. Sharankumar Limbale is a prolific writer in Marathi literary world. His much critically acclaimed Akkarmashi is a milestone which pioneered the foundation of Dalit Literature in Maharashtra and the entire nation as well. The book mirrors a pen portrait of the lowest of the lower section of the Indian society which was abused, exploited, ostracised, and alienated from the mainstream from thousands of years. Being a protagonist, Dr.Limbale himself is the victim of the caste system as he belongs to Mahar(the erstwhile untouchables) community, from Maharashtra. It is an autobiography a novel. It is thusbecause, while dealing with the genre one exploits a sort of liberty wherein one embellishes the story with symbols and images and imagination. Apparently, the creativity causes to lose the gravity of the original one,or miss the essence intended to be conveyed to the readers. Hence, autobiography is the best mode of expression for a Dalit writer.Dalit writers express themselves through autobiographies right from Namdev Dhasal to Urmila Pawar.
