Abstract
In perspective of the worldwide currency circumstance and therefore the rising oil prices, ship-owners and charterers are looking for answers for cut expenses by decreasing fuel utilization. The purpose of this paper was to clarify some important issues as regards ship speed optimization at the operational level that can help to develop models that optimize ship speed for a spectrum of routing scenarios in a single ship setting. In total 33 Merchant Vessels Authority representatives (Vessel Management) were interviewed for the study. The paper’s main contribution is the opinion of experienced authorities that explored the fundamental parameters and other considerations that weigh heavily in a merchant vessels overall performance.
